It’s been an eventful few days! My diabetes check is due later on this evening and in preparation for this I’ve had to have some blood tests and produce a urine sample. So off I popped to the local chemist who now offer blood testing services…but not for me apparently! I’d booked my appointment and so turned up on time raring to go – well maybe not raring, after the last tests I’d had were unsuccessful and left me with holes in both arms, my wrist and the backs of my hands and me with a sense that I may be related to a vampire! The lady taking the blood was apparently very experienced, yet tried to find my veins with a needles the size of a friggin udon noodle and left me with a number of holes in my arms yet again, and had only managed to get a couple of measly droplets out. As she tried again I felt the room starting to spin and the colour drain from my face, and as I told her I thought I was going to faint, I did! Very embarrassing, even more so as she’d gone out into the pharmacy to tell someone, but had announced it across the room, so when I eventually left, I had a whole room full of people staring at me…not good when you’re a paranoid android!
Even more embarrassing was the size of the urine sample bottle – how the heck was I supposed to get a stream of wee into that?! Given that I have short arms and a big belly, the logistics alone cause problems! Which is why you may have found me crouched over a large Tupperware container this week having a wee, trying to stay out of the splash back zone. At least there is wee in the sample bottle now!
Following the first unsuccessful blood taking attempt, I knew I’d have to go and get it done at the hospital. This means a bit of a walk, which I’ve historically had to do in parts, taking rests at the seating areas along the way. However this time round, I made it in one go…a small achievement, but an achievement non the less! My sister also told me how she used to worry about me walking down the road to her house, and that she always got me a drink really quickly as I used to look like I was going to have a heart attack and was purple in the face when I arrived and breathless. She sometimes forgets to offer me a drink now as she isn’t as worried she said anymore! Which in a weird way is another indicator that this weight loss is having a noticeable difference.
Oh yes, weight loss! This week I lost another 3lbs to make a total of 6st 8lbs and got my 6st 7lbs award! I was also Slimmer of the Week and Slimmer of the Month too. I sat and worked out that in the past 3 months I’ve lost 69lbs which is 1lb short of 5st…in 3 months!!! I couldn’t believe it, but it’s certainly spurred me on; I really want my 8st award before Christmas – what a perfect present to myself that would be.
The title of my blog was blood, sweat – or lack of, and tears. The blood is obvious…the bloody blood tests! The sweat – or lack of, was for my walking and increase in activity, and the tears relate to the Pride of Britain awards last night…I spent most of the evening bawling my eyes out and feeling like a muppet about the moaning I do!! I need to man up and get on with life and make the most of things. Live for today and not for when you think you should be doing things…don’t wait – just do it!
