I’d lost my old tape measure that my Nan had given to me, so my other half kindly offered to pop into our local Hobbycraft and get me a new one. “Make sure it’s not a piddly little thing” I told him, after having many fun moments with people trying to measure me with ‘normal’ ones!…The Dr wanted to take a waist to hip ratio one day – goodness knows why – I told him just to put Po:Dipsy, al la Teletubbies, as this has been my general shape for the past few years. A kindly member of staff at the gym I joined years ago wanted to take measurements for my record card and for ‘motivation’. “You’ll need two of those” I said, “nonsense” she said, “I’ve not had anyone that this hasn’t gone around yet!” I made her eat her words, and she was rather red-faced as she asked me to hold my fingers at each end so she could measure the gap!!! I didn’t mind, I used to take my own measurements on a regular basis when on previous health kicks such as SlimFast, Cabbage Soup, Atkins, Boiled Egg, South Beach, blah blah blah, and had often had to hold a biro in one hand whilst trying to stop the tape measure from sliding over my bum at the same time and mark the start and end points so I could bridge the gap! So when my other half came out of the shop looking sheepish, I wondered what he’d done! “Don’t be upset” he said, “I just wanted to make it easier for you”. “Okay, why? What have you bought?” “A curtain tape measure, it does up to 3 metres”. Bless him, I had to laugh as the sheepish look on his face; he really didn’t want to upset me, and just wanted to help. I couldn’t help but laugh, it was huge and brilliant for the tough life it faced ahead!
So anyway, the point of this post is to say that I first took my measurements in July. This was when I’d been diagnosed with diabetes and decided to stop messing around and playing at following the Slimming World Plan, and to get my backside into gear and do it properly. I took some pictures of myself, which were a kick up the backside too – I don’t have many mirrors in my house, and even though I know I’m enormous, it is still a shock when I see quite how big I’ve left myself get! – and I also took three simple measurements; chest, waist and hips. Now that I’ve lost over 6st, and have surpassed my second 3st mini target, I thought I’d do another picture and measurement update, also spurred on by the couple in class that said they can see the difference in me! I’ve lost 4″ off my chest, 3.5″ off my waist, and 5.5″ off my hips! A happy face can be found at my house this afternoon! I can see a difference in the pictures too, perhaps not as much as I’d like having lost over 6st, but a definite difference regardless.
I would definitely recommend others to do the same – go on, get the tape measure and the camera out!
Before I go, I have a confession to make…I ate a vegeburger, kebab and chips with cheese on last night! Inexcusable I know, however I’d been ill all day, nothing was staying ‘in’ for any duration, and I’d not managed to get to the shop as I’d needed to stay near the bathroom. I had a craving and thought that as I’d been ill, it wouldn’t make much difference, however the only thing that did stay ‘in’ was the naughty food!!! This seems to be a bit of a theme – healthy food is causing stomach upsets and sickness, yet any hint of naughty food and I’m fine. It’s a tough situation as I don’t want to be ill, but I want to lose the weight, so I think I’ll just keep on as I have been and try and avoid the naughty stuff, but I’ll have to speak to the consultant when I next go to the hospital about it all!!
This weekend I’m being extra good though; we’ve just stocked up on the ingredients to make a Minestrone, Leek and Potato, and a Chicken Noodle soup. I can have a new flavour each day and have extra helpings at hand to snack on if needs be to stop me craving the naughty stuff!
Take care all!
