It’s been incredibly wet’n’wild up here. Look at any weather forecasting map and you’ll see weather warnings hovering just overhead! 🙂
The rain has bought flooding, the high winds make it pretty treacherous to drive, the ferry was off today, and there were a couple of landslides right where I normally drive…and fifteen cars were trapped between them.
We didn’t know that of course when we set off to take Mr WLB on a ‘Fort to Fort’ bike challenge.
The journey however thankfully wore down his determination to compete. The ferry was cancelled which meant an additional 30 miles on the trip – 60 with the return journey. My sister and her hubby were following us with my niece and nephew in the car behind. The first few ‘puddles’ we drove through were okay…but I soon pulled over and asked if they preferred to turn back. We carried on.
The only cars we saw along the way had canoes strapped to the roof. It should have been a sign. Apparently my nephew said, ‘Daddy, that’s so silly…those cars have got rockets on them!’ He thought it was dangerous! 😉
Bless his heart. Apparently when they were travelling up here yesterday, he kept asking if they were in Scotland yet. When they crossed the ‘line’ he immediately wanted to know where I was, as they’d been telling him that I was waiting in Scotland for him…I think he must think that Scotland is a little town!
Anyway, we eventually made it to town. We stocked up with supplies, refuelled, grabbed some refreshments, and then headed back.
I was amazed at the driving. Some people had no lights on. It was hammering down and really dull…arseholes! Some of them were overtaking cars doing 50 in torrential rain…overtaking on country roads. I stuck behind a little fiesta and did a nice pace for the driving conditions. Then the car in front turned off where we were heading…and stopped.
A car in front of that turned around, and the fiesta gestured for me to overtake. It was flooded and he wanted me to test the depth with Freddie Freelander I think.
I felt the pressure! 😉
I made it. And so did the convoy behind me. At one point there were 8 cars behind us who were all happy to tuck in behind me and let me continue to test the depth of the floods! It was a single track road with passing places…there was lots of flooding…and a few very quick cars heading towards us with a lack of braking capacity in the wet. I almost let a little bit of wee out on a few occasions! 🙂
30 miles later, the road broadened. We got where we needed to get safely – thankfully. I hope everyone else did too…my sister and I were the only ones left in the convoy eventually!
We then had a Halloween party a little earlier than we should have done. My niece and nephew were having a sleepover at our cottage. They had helped choose the party food…beans on toast! This meant we took them shopping. Children and shopping don’t mix well. My niece set the exit alarms off and we all just stood there laughing as it was quite entertaining…for us…not for the other shoppers!
We built a Halloween gingerbread house that collapsed shortly after the picture was taken…we have had glow sticks, glow in the dark bubbles, gel stickers for the patio…
They are currently fast asleep in bed, which is where I will be soon – this hour thing buggers me up.
Tomorrow is rock climbing day…if we can get to the climbing rendezvous point. If not, it will be rescheduled for later in the week!
I am going to love you and leave you now – Mr WLB is currently discussing ‘shooty arse’ with my Mum…those stabbing pains you get in your bum for no apparent reason…they really bloody hurt! – we clearly have important theories to talk about this evening! 🙂
Today’s food looked like this…
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, smoked trout, and wilted spinach.
Lunch: Smoked seafood stew.
Dinner: Roasted marrow and pumpkin, with beef mince, broccoli, and cauliflower.
Snacks: Tikka chicken, banana, and figs with blue cheese Laughing Cow and Ryvita (2 x HEA and 2 x HEB).
Yesterday’s food looked like this…
Exercise: Nowt – and it’s getting me down a little…my foot is so sore. To be fair, I could be doing upper body seated exercise…but the lack of really being able to go for it pisses me off…and therefore I do nothing – figure that one out! 😉
