21 weekends…21 weekends left until Herbie and I ride around London…63 bloody miles around London in the dark!
‘Eek’ doesn’t quite fecking cut it – ‘eek’ was my first thought and ‘bollocks’ was my second thought! 😉
It looks like Herbie and I need to become reacquainted pretty bloody quickly!
I have put together some semblance of a training plan – which involves riding circuits around my local reservoir. The perimeter is 5 miles. I rode around it a couple of times before, so my plan is to head there every Sunday – weather willing – between now and the ride and do an extra lap each weekend…
Week 1 x 2 – 10 miles
Week 2 x 3 – 15 miles
Week 3 x 4 – 20 miles
Week 4 x 5 – 25 miles
Week 5 x 6 – 30 miles
Week 6 x 7 – 35 miles
Week 7 x 8 – 40 miles
Week 8 x 9 – 45 miles
Week 9 x 10 – 50 miles
Week 10 x 11 – 55 miles
Week 11 x 12 – 60 miles
Week 12 x 13 – 65 miles
Week 13 x 14 – 70 miles
Week 14 x 14 – 70 miles
Week 15 x 14 – 70 miles
Week 16 x 15 – 75 miles
Week 17 x 15 – 75 miles
Week 18 x 15 – 75 miles
Week 19 x 16 – 80 miles
Week 20 x 16 – 80 miles
Week 21 x 13 – 65 miles
I guess I didn’t have to write it all out…I am sure you got the idea! 😉
Time is the main issue…and daylight. I am not that confident on the roads either. I start my new job soon which cuts down training time, and I have two Pilates sessions a week and three personal training sessions a week…so time is very limited. My turbo trainer will be the main source of training during the week and I will have to rely on my Sunday rides to build fitness…there’s always the sweeper wagon if I totally feck it up! 😉
My aim is to be able to comfortably undertake the ride. It’s going to be a challenge…pushing 21st+ along on a bike isn’t as easy as you might think. 21st+ bearing down on a tiny bike saddle is not as comfortable as you might think. Finding suitable clothing for my 21st+ body is not as easy as you might think.
To be honest, I have the last bit sorted courtesy of Fat Lad at the Back…and their ladies ‘Fat Lass‘ clothing. I contacted the guys there and they kitted me out…I am now a proud ‘FLambassador’ – it’s seriously good kit. I took some padded pedal pushers to the Highlands with me and felt all Victoria Pendleton! 😉 I love my gear from there. I am not usually one for ‘sports’ gear but it really does make a difference to have correctly fitting and functional stuff. It also really makes a difference to deal with people with a fecking marvellous sense of humour…the guys here are so funny and so helpful too!
I am hoping that by the end of May I won’t quite be having to push 21st+ along…I am hoping to shift a couple of stone by then. Actually – wow – wouldn’t it be fecking marvellous if I could do that ride with a ‘1’ in front of my weight…so to be in the teens instead of twenties…that’s a goal I am now going for! 🙂
As for the saddle issues. Well, I found some chafe-less pants…I have my padded leggings…and I am buying an industrial sized tub of Vaseline to grease myself up. It’s not a pleasant thought…on second thoughts, it could actually be rather pleasant doing the greasing – haha! 😉
Anyway – I am going to complete my challenge. As I mention on my Just Giving page, I think you probably know by now that there is one ‘C-word’ that I love…but there is one ‘C-word’ that I am not fond of…cancer. We will all have been touched by cancer in some way – whether personally, or whether our friends, relatives, colleagues, or other loved ones have been dealt a shitty hand. Personally, I have been affected – and so have loved ones. I have fought many battles…having reached 43st 5.5lbs and shifting 21.5st of that so far. I would like to think, that despite not having ridden a bike properly since I was 12 (and I am now 33!), this ride will be one battle that I will definitely conquer! When I say ‘properly’, I just to ride up and down the street that I lived on…I was no Bradley Wiggins – although my sideburns would give him a run for his money! 😉
And that’s pretty much it for me today. I wasn’t at all well last night and had to postpone today’s training session…so it’s been a very quiet day. I had to try and worm the horses but ended up with a load in my mouth…two horses were wormed well, two – well, they were lucky if they got any of it…and I am £72 lighter thanks to the cost of wormers!
I am now going to watch a film with Mr WLB and relax…after relaxing all day and watching Frozen with my niece – that was an ace film!
