What a flipping lovely weekend I have had!
Friday kicked things off – an early finish from work was followed by a barbecue with Mr WLB and my Mum at the stables. On the way there I had my music on, sunglasses on, windows open…and the sun was shining – what an amazing afternoon.
Saturday was lovely too. I headed off to spend the day with my friend. She wants to get her healthy eating on track but wasn’t really sure where to start. She doesn’t have weight to lose, but just wants to fuel her body well. So I took her shopping. We had sweet potatoes, fruits, various veggies, steak, chicken, some healthy snack options – roasted chickpeas, seeds, some Greek yogurt and falafel.
She hates food shopping and usually runs in and out quickly and usually just cooks fish…se we looked for new options! We strolled around the shop…at the halfway mark I think she wanted to ditch the trolley and run! So I kept pointing out new foods to try and she said that she quite enjoyed it. Her fridge is full and I am hoping that it helps her out in some small way.
Then I headed home and had a quiet and short evening with Mr WLB as we had to grab an early night due to a sportive he was riding in today…which meant a stupidly early wake-up call for me today.
When the alarm went off, I wasn’t the happiest bunny this morning – but the sunshine cheered me up!
I dropped him off and then decided to head to a lovely little coffee shop that I visited yesterday. Quite a lot of local Slimming World people talk about this place – they make delicious SW friendly salads and cakes and even cooked breakfasts. I kind of couldn’t resist a visit! A second visit in fact!
Yesterday my friend and I enjoyed the nicest salad I have ever tried – seriously, it was delicious! As a confirmed salad dodger it’s not usually my first option…I tolerate salad as I know it’s a good option for us losers. But I always feel like I would prefer a big baguette or something! Not after trying this though…
It was immense. I am definitely going back again and have told my PT about it too…and all of my fitness buddies.
For those of you near Warwickshire, it’s called Coffee Architects and is well worth a visit. The owner is lovey. I ordered four takeaway cakes yesterday – carrot ones and ginger ones (4 syns each) but when I got home there were only two there. So when I went in this morning, she insisted on paying for my breakfast. I was horrified as I don’t like the whole freebie thing – I get a bit uncomfortable with it all…I am not really one of these people that makes a fuss over nothing – the food was amazing and they were run off their feet yesterday; it was a simple mistake and I would have been more than happy with replacements!
Sam, the owner, made me laugh though – I was trying to argue and say that I couldn’t possibly let her pay and kept shoving my Visa card towards the till…she said, ‘You won’t win this one!’ So I bought some cakes and insisted on paying for those instead!
I am a massive fan of young, growing, and local business – especially those with tasty and healthier offerings – so I had to buy something to support!
It really is a lovely little place – the staff are so friendly and helpful, the place is quirky and the decoration is just lush…the kind of place that I could spend all day in.
The counter top has the most beautiful cakes on display – those ones are about 38 syns a slice I reckon though…you have to ask for the Slimming World friendly ones. Honestly, I was so impressed. You know me well enough by now to know that if I think something is awful then I say so…but I have no hesitation in singing the praises of a place that can make salad and cake made with scan bran taste so amazing!
I sat and listened yesterday to Sam talking about coffee with a customer – so much heart and passion – I love it there. In fact…I might see if they have room for me to move in! Haha! For me, it’s just nice to know that I can head out with friends for the day and have a nice meal option…it takes the worry out it for me.
The horses were on good form too today. We had a ‘chat’ about the fact they are moving back to our summer yard next weekend. I was trying to convince my usually tough to load mare that it was fine to walk into the trailer as we were all heading back home! Time will tell on that one…
I then went to see the old lady down the road – I took her a bunch of flowers and had a catch up. She is doing well!
It was then off to see my wild and wonderful niece and nephew – my Dad was there too and then my Mum arrived later, so it was a nice family day.
My timing was fab as I ended up getting lunch and dinner…a lovely lamb roast and a beautiful chicken and veggie soup. My sister is a fabulous cook! In fact, I am trying to convince her to be my chef!
So we had some giggles and I am now back home catching up with The Good Wife and then a couple of Better Call Saul episodes.
Here’s my food gallery for the weekend…
I am feeling back in control. My food isn’t quite where I want it to be – this weekend has been fairly ‘clean’ though - but I am far more focused on getting my head back in the game. I am fighting. I always fight!
