I am a happy Weight Loss Bitch today! It was weigh in day and I had no idea what to expect as I haven’t done anything much different to the past few weeks, but the result was…
So I was really happy when I stepped on the scales as I felt that the loss reflected the effort I had put in. Unlike the past couple of weeks when the effort has been there, but the reward wasn’t big enough for my liking. Then again, not many things were big enough for my liking – hence the reason I got so fat in the first place…maybe I need to accept the rewards, no matter how small they might seem?! The only food change has been switching back to my cereal bars in the morning instead of porridge…but as they are both a HEB I can’t really put it down to that!
Anyway, it was another interesting morning at group. My consultant looked great today – she is on a campaign to lose weight to fit into a lovely dress for the Slimming World ball in June – and you can really see the difference. She is by no means a big lady at all, but you can see that she kind of radiates happiness when she has had a good week…much like us members do too…and she looked really lovely! There you go – that’s my creeping over and done with, just in case she reads today’s post!
It was good to catch up with people whilst they were signing in, and lovely to see a newer member who had got her first award within two weeks…and she was thrilled! The wonderful husband and wife duo – who always make me laugh – were in fine form today too. I think they highlight for me how different the journey of two people can be – as they eat the same foods, yet never share the same weight losses…sometimes there are quite dramatic differences actually. All the more reason to focus on what you are doing and not other people…yet I still can’t help but get annoyed at these jammy buggers who binge drink and eat kebabs and still lose weight.
The session today really showed how wrong we can get it when it comes to eating out. My consultant mentioned how her and a friend used to go out for lunch to a certain pub on a regular basis, and that she had checked with the kitchen how the food was cooked…and knew that what she was eating was syn free. It was a jacket potato, a Cajun chicken breast and some salad. Her friend would also have the same meal, yet she would add the two little packets of butter to her potato, the little dish of coleslaw and two sachets of mayonnaise…which added syns…32 of them! This friend is also on Slimming World – but doesn’t attend a group with my consultant – and swears she sticks to the plan yet doesn’t lose weight. I think the example of the ‘healthy on plan’ meal just shows how easy it is to trick ourselves into thinking we have been good…when actually over two days worth of syns were eaten! It was like the time that I had my jacket potato and toppings after group…and then calculated it was over 40 syns…crazy!
Anyway, I can’t move on without mentioning Pizza Lady, who today was again on fine form with a million and one questions…none of which really had anything to do with Slimming World! She was shocked that I had to go and see the horses twice each day – and when I pointed out that we have to let them into their stables at night and then out again in the mornings it still didn’t register with her. She then asked if I rode them…and when I replied that no, I didn’t as I would squash them…not much registered then either! Bless her heart – she really is a lovely girl to speak with, and is such a part of the group that I would definitely notice if she wasn’t there…but I do wonder some days! She had also asked if my consultant thought that ‘Diet Chef’ and ‘Jenny Craig’ were good meals to eat on Slimming World…! And then wanted to know what my consultants son did for a job…even though my consultant has mentioned this on many occasions as she talks about her family as much as I do – we are really family oriented! Next week I might do a tally chart and count the questions. I would love nothing more than to see her hit target, but my consultant has tried and other members have tried…me included…I think she just likes coming to group for the social aspect, which is fine! And I feel quite protective of her in a way too – even though I talk about her in my blog, it is with good natured humour, and not mean spiritedness on my behalf! In fact, she knows I write about her, as I told her…but I am not sure that registered either!
On the Jenny Craig thing, they are obviously calorie controlled plans in their own right and encourage portion control. But what an expensive and plastic tasting way of going about things? The meals need extra fresh veggies and fruit adding to them, and I could rustle them up for less than half the price. I think they are good for busy people who want to control the amount they eat…but my concern would be sustainability and cost. I know that I can bulk my meals up with veggies to keep the calories down, and that I can do this on a budget…but buying those meals, which are quite expensive, and then having to buy the veggies on top…it just isn’t something that would work for me.
Now, in light of the past few weeks of results, I had promised myself that I would head straight to McDonalds if I hadn’t lost at least 3lbs. Not because I wanted it, but because I had listened to people telling me that a blitz / binge / blow out might help. I too think sometimes that the body does need a kick up the bum every now and again, but I cannot tell you how pleased I was to lose that 4lbs as I think I would have had to break my promise…as I really don’t want to have a return to my binge eating past. Not that one session would do it, but it is the thought of it that scares me. I am feeling like I am making real progress and so I don’t want to see that habit again!
I did have a little naughty moment though when we were back home…I ate four of these…
…they were lovely, but gone in seconds! At 1.5 syns each, for me, I don’t think they were worth it. They were incredibly tasty – and therein lies the problem! I would sit with a packet, and a big dollop of ketchup and would eat the lot…and I think with the ketchup you would be looking at about 20 syns. And really…are a few cocktail sausages as satisfying as a couple of bags of Snack a Jacks for 9 syns? Not for me. Great for a picnic – and honestly, they are really nice – but I think I will avoid them! Just as I avoid the little mini scotch eggs that Quorn do…but this was a purchase my other half made for us to try; I could have said no, but I had four and won’t be having them again anytime soon!
So that was it really. A great morning and I was Slimmer of the Week too, which I haven’t been for a while now. A quiet day otherwise, just the horses before group, Asda after group, an afternoon of trying to keep warm, back to the horses and a relaxing evening!
Brekkie and lunch – and dinner in fact – are all quite self explanatory today! My crisps are still a habit that I can’t / am not willing to break yet. My Dad made me laugh when he asked if I was having a ‘treat’ today, as when I mentioned my crisps he said that I still can’t give the bloody things up. Now, if I had said I was having a nice big ready made lasagne and garlic dough balls, he wouldn’t have minded – even though there would have been far more syns! He is just as hung up about my crisp habit as I am. But, I am not prepared to give that Tuesday habit up yet…and considering that I am officially allowed upto 25 syns per day but have been having loads less than this, I am not over my syns for the week…even though that sounds like a lame-assed cop-out…and it is! I don’t have to justify my crisp habit as I have reduced from seven multipacks a week to one…and I won’t stop that until I am so near target that I have no choice!
Exercise: Two shifts at the horses.
Thank you for reading guys – and thank you for your ongoing support…the positive comments I get on my weigh in days from you all really make me smile!

P.S. Just a quick reminder about syns – I eat the Quorn lamb grills…which were syn free but are now 0.5 syns each. I know 0.5 syns isn’t much – but when I checked for syns on something else, I spotted the change. It just made me think that we need to check the syns of our favourite stuff every now and again just to make sure. The same goes with old SW recipes…I try and check syns in them but sometimes just rely on what they say!
